Can you believe it’s the middle of July already? The kids go back to school soon, the pool is a great place to be on the weekend, and over half the year has passed! Six months of 2014 are gone, and that’s over 180 days we will never get back.
How are you doing with your New Year’s resolutions? Do you remember them? If so, great! If you wanted to lose 10 pounds, are you down 5 yet? If you wanted to read 12 books, have you read 6 yet? If not, that’s okay, you can start fresh today! You can have a Half Year Resolution!
One of the most important parts of setting goals is to keep it measurable. It’s one thing to say “I want to lose weight.” It is a totally different thing to say “I want to lose 10 pounds by December 31, 2014 by exercising five times a week, eating five small meals a day and averaging seven hours of sleep each night.” Your brain registers the latter goal differently than the vague first one.
Also important is the reason or passion behind your goal. After setting your measurable goal, asking yourself the question “Why?” is very important. If it’s so you can be active with your children or grandchildren that will help you avoid that particular dessert or take that walk. If it is for someone or something you care about, you are much more likely to stick with it!
Let’s celebrate the half-year point of 2014 and make the remainder of the year your best half-year ever!
